This year’s Summer Histematics Program was a tremendous success. Our students sharpened their mathematical and literacy skills while exploring African American historical texts. Akil Parker of All This Math, LLC implemented his innovative teaching method with Baltimore City scholars in grades 6 – 12. This year we added a new component, our Exploring Your Roots genealogy program. In this partnership with the Baltimore chapter of the African American Historical and Genealogical Society (BAAHGS) students learned the skills of genealogy as they embarked on the path to explore their family history. The classroom experiences were supplemented with Friday Field Trips. This summer students visited The Lewis Museum, The James E. Lewis Museum of Art on the campus of Morgan State University during a college tour, they also toured Coppin State University, The Walters Art Gallery and the Maryland Center for History and Culture. We celebrated our scholars during our closing ceremony with certificates, stipends, and superlatives. It was a great summer. But the program doesn’t end there. We are looking forward to continuing monthly study group sessions throughout the school year continuing to support our scholars. This year was one of the best yet!
